Hello and thank you. I am so pleased you have decided to be with me here each week where we won’t be bothered by annoying ad’s or algorithms. This is my modern-day scrap book of sorts. But also somewhere I can invite you to jot down notes and comments on these pages I post. My father, the designer David Hicks, kept scrap books, with invitations, letters, photographs, newspaper clippings and press pieces glued into beautifully bound albums. My mother, a Lady-in-waiting to the Queen, kept diaries, with incisive wit, noting all those astonishing moments she had during her life, which give us an insight into a disappearing world. INDIA HICKS. An Unexpected Journey. is reader-supported. Subscribe for a deeper dive into the archives, longer stories from the past and present, and generally just more of more. I recently explored my parents muniment room (you’ll have to google that). A huge, old fashioned, wrought iron key unlocked the creaking door and sunshine slipped in behind me, startling happy spiders who had been spinning their webs here for many years. I blew the dust off shelves of folders and cardboard boxes and tentatively lifted their lids and peered inside to discover years of memories stored away. So much history in one small room. I am now archiving much of what we discovered in that room, and I will be sharing it here with you, along with snippets from my own rather map cap life, living on a tiny speck of an out island in the Bahamas, as a mother of 5 children, chasing adventure, passionate about design, fighting for causes, all the while studying to be the person I want to be, the person who is better than the person I am. I may not be able to see your faces, but this is where I can hear your voices and I look forward to us both having this conversation as I do my best to bring you a meaningful story, a snippet of history, and a dig in those unseen folders, layered voice notes, video’s, podcasts, previews, and perhaps even publishing pages of books to come. Join Me on the JourneyFREE For new and current friends, you may like to read a few favorite entries from my “official” website shared here and have a listen to a podcast or two to get to know me and more importantly my astonishing Mum. PAID Curious friends, joining me on this new journey, thank you, there is an un-alarming monthly or annual subscription which will give you a deeper dive into the archives, longer stories from the past and present, and generally just more of more, without the interruption of ads or the agony of algorithms. FOUNDING FRIENDS And for fierce founding friends, work is in progress to bring some exciting exclusive moments for you — a monthly musing to include confessions and conversations, riveting reveals and a deeper dive into my mother's Muniment room.
